Physicians at Bethesda North Vascular Center Team Up to Fight Vascular Disease
April 21, 2008
Physicians practicing at the new Bethesda North Vascular Center are providing residents of Greater Cincinnati a unique resource in the fight against vascular disease.
The Vascular Center is the first in the region—and one of only a few in the nation—to unite the unique perspectives of interventional cardiology, interventional radiology, cardiothoracic surgery and vascular surgery under one roof. Together, the Vascular Center’s specialists provide a “one-stop” shop for detecting and treating vascular disease, especially lower extremity peripheral artery disease, carotid stenosis, renal artery stenosis and abdominal aortic aneurysm.
This approach greatly improves the process through which patients access a vascular specialist and receive treatment. “There is no one-size-fits-all treatment for vascular disease,” says Joel Reginelli MD, a co-director at the Vascular Center. “That can create confusion about which specialists cover what symptoms and when to refer a patient for what tests.”
When patients are referred to the Vascular Center, they are scheduled for diagnostic testing, pre-procedure testing or ongoing monitoring, depending on the level and combination of their symptoms. Complex patient cases then are reviewed by all of the Vascular Center’s specialists, who decide as a group on the best treatment.
The approach follows a trend at Bethesda North of bringing specialists together for maximum patient benefit, and it’s gaining rave reviews from both physicians and patients. “It shows that Bethesda North is serious about providing leading-edge care to the residents of this city,” Dr. Reginelli says.
