Bethesda North Outpatient Center -- Opening Summer 2009
New Outpatient Center to Make Testing More Convenient
A new 47,540-square-foot outpatient center offering easy access and high quality diagnostics is scheduled to open on the Bethesda North campus by summer 2009. The Bethesda North outpatient center will be located in an existing freestanding building that is being expanded and renovated at 10494 Montgomery Road.
The center will house the Mary Jo Cropper Family Center for Breast Care, along with a full range of radiology and related services for outpatients. The $24.5 million project, which also includes renovation of inpatient radiology services at Bethesda North, was funded in part by generous donations from the community and Bethesda employees, physicians and volunteers.
The new building will provide many benefits to patients. With nearby parking and services just a few steps away inside the building, outpatient care will be more convenient and accessible. The project will expand access to the hospital’s highly successful Breast Center, which exceeds national averages for early detection of breast cancer. And computer technology, including new digital mammography, will make images more quickly available to physicians, for quicker diagnosis and treatment.
The Mary Jo Cropper Family Center for Breast Care will double the capacity of the current Bethesda North Center for Breast Care, to 60,000 patients annually. The Breast Center also will have the space to expand its support to patients and families through educational programs and research.
The Bethesda Foundation raised $3.3 million toward the center. In addition, Consolidated Health Services, a division of Bethesda Inc. that operates home health and patient transport businesses, contributed $3 million to the outpatient center.
When complete, the building will feature a welcoming lobby and registration area. Radiology services including x-ray, ultrasound, CT and MRI will be located on the ground floor. The Mary Jo Cropper Family Center for Breast Care will be on the second floor. Additional services in the building will include bone density/Dexa scans, stereotactic biopsy, patient lab draws stations, and the Bethesda North Pulmonary Nodule Program.
